Biofortification Hub Community Meetings

The Hub will organise three large Community Meetings in 2023, 2026 and 2027.

Past Hub Community meeting:

First Biofortification Hub Community Meeting (29-30 November 2023) “Improving Health and Nutrition through Biofortification”, John Innes Conference Centre, Norwich Research Park, Norwich, UK).
  • Two days in-person event with 86 participants and 17 talks covering a wide range of topics on biofortification, with an emphasis on showcasing opportunities, exciting UK science and industry participation / products.
  • 3 invited plenary talks from members of the Biofortification Hub International Advisory Panel – E. Boy (HarvestPlus, USA), D. Van Der Straeten (Ghent University) and T. Fitzpatrick (Unige – Université de Genève)
  • 4 bursaries provided to students and Early Career Researchers (ECRs) to attend the first Biofortification Hub Community Meeting (Norwich, 29-30 Nov. 2023 ) co-funded by the Biofortification Hub and our industrial partners.
  • 5 projects funded by the Biofortification Hub in 2023 presented at the meeting
  • Presentation and tasting of biofortified SmarterNaturally soup by L. Knight (The Smarter Food Company, Norwich)
  • Presentation and tasting of biofortified bread (SuperLoaf) by L. Campbell (Modern Baker, Oxford) as well as loaves to takeaway

Second Biofortification Hub Community Meeting (19-20 March 2026) “Biofortification from Science to Society” University of Aberdeen Rowett Institute, Scotland, UK. Meeting organised by the Rowett Institute and funded by the Biofortification Hub.
  • Two days in-person event with 74 participants, 23 talks and 19 posters covering a wide range of topics on biofortification, with an emphasis on showcasing opportunities, exciting UK science and industry participation / products.
  • 5 invited plenary talks: Martin Warren (Quadram Institute), Luke Bell (University of Reading), Christine Bosch (University of Leeds), Cathie Martin (John Innes Centre) and Bhavani Shankar (University of Sheffield).
  • 5 bursaries provided to students and Early Career Researchers (ECRs) to attend the second Biofortification Hub Community Meeting.
  • 11 projects funded by the Biofortification Hub since 2023 presented at the meeting.
